How to Auto Play PowerPoint Slides?

A self-running presentation can make your life a lot easier as an instructor, marketer, or common PowerPoint user. However, when you are presenting the slides, constant clicking can be annoying for both you and the audience. There are different options to auto play PowerPoint slides with custom settings.

You can assign a custom duration for every slide or use the same duration for all slides. You can make PowerPoint slides with ChatGPT, but manually adjusting the slideshow still seems like a good idea.

Automatic Slideshow in PowerPoint

A slideshow is one of PowerPoint’s most important features. Effectively using different features in the Slideshow tab can make your presentation much more engaging. Simply clicking on the slideshow button will play the slides, but you will have to stick to the default settings.

Benefits of Automatic Slideshow in PowerPoint

Why you should opt for a self-running presentation? The answer is the convenience for the presenter. All slides keep running without human input. Imagine you are displaying banners at an event and want to change the slide every 20 seconds. Can you afford to appoint an employee just to change slides every 20 seconds?

There is no need to click any key or mouse button to auto-play slides. With certain settings, you can make slides run automatically without clicking. There are different use cases for self-running slides, including:

  • Business presentations
  • Publicity of products and services
  • Online lectures and tutorials
  • Photo or video slideshow

Now, the next phase is to determine whether you want to assign the same duration for every slide or play slides with a custom duration. In the next sections, we will discuss both possibilities for auto-playing PowerPoint slides.

Play Slides Automatically with Custom Slide Timings

If you want to allocate a custom duration to each slide, you need to use the “Rehearse Timings” option from the Slide Show tab.

While using this option, you will play slides as if you were presenting in front of a real audience. You will start the slides and start explaining them. Once you are done with a slide, click on the Next button, and that time duration will be assigned to the slide.

You need to follow the same process for all slides and ensure that the slide is on the screen for long enough to explain everything. This way, you have assigned a custom duration to every slide.

Go to the View tab and click on the Slide Sorter button to view the custom duration for every slide in the presentation.

Time duration for every slide

Step 1: Now, go to the Slideshow tab and click on the Setup Slideshow button. A new window will pop up, allowing you to make various changes related to the slideshow and how you present slides.

Step 2: From this window, select the right option from the Show Type section and then make the desired changes.

To ensure that the slide continues playing automatically without clicking, navigate to the “Advance Slides” section and then choose the “Using timings, if present” option.

Step 3: Now, you have saved settings for the slideshow, and available timings from rehearsed timings will be used to advance slides. Once you have started the slides, the next slide will appear as soon as the playback duration for one slide ends.

Play Slides Automatically with Transitions

PowerPoint allows you to keep playing slides automatically until you cancel the slideshow. This feature is useful for normal presentations or events where you must display certain marketing materials on the screens.

If you want to assign a specific display time for every slide and have the slides transition, go to the Transitions tab from the top menu.

Now, on the right, there is a section for “Advance Slide” where you see the option to set a timer for slides. This timer plays the same role as rehearsed timing and inputs the timer for every slide. This period will determine how long the slide will be advanced.

In this tab, you can also apply different transitions to the slides. This process might take some time, but it offers great customization options. There are different ways to make PowerPoint presentations within minutes, and we will share the best one in the next section.
