How to Convert Canva to PowerPoint

If you’ve built your slides in Canva and now regret it because you’re trying to share them with someone who needs them in PowerPoint, you might feel like you’ve made a big mistake. Thankfully, you haven’t. If your boss, professor or peer doesn’t use Canva or needs the file in .pptx format for editing, there’s a simple way to move things over. We’ll show you how to convert your Canva slides to PowerPoint quickly and easily.
How to Export Slides from Canva
Fortunately, Canva has considered this possibility and has a solution already built in. It’s simple and takes no extra effort on your part. This is the quick version:
- Open your project in Canva
- Click the Share button in the top right
- Choose Download
- Under file type, pick Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)
- Download it
That gives you a PowerPoint file that keeps your designs mostly intact. Most of the time, it works well enough. But not always, so read on below for some details you might want to be aware of.

Issues When Converting Canva to PowerPoint
The PowerPoint file you get won’t always be perfect. Fonts sometimes get swapped, especially if Canva used one that isn’t installed on your computer. Text boxes might wrap differently. Spacing can look a little off. And don’t expect animations or transitions to come through… because they won’t.
If your slides are mostly images and text, you’re probably fine. But if they rely on precise formatting or custom fonts, you’ll want to check each one afterward.
Canva Slides as PNGs
If your slides aren’t simple text boxes, then you’re in for quite a bit of extra work. If you’re feeling kind of lazy or are pressed for time, however, you do have another option. If you don’t want to edit anything, just make each slide an image. Canva lets you do that too:
- Download as PNG
- Select all pages
- In PowerPoint, create blank slides and insert one image per slide
This is perfect when you only need to show the slides, not tweak them. The downside: you can’t change any text or graphics once they’re in PowerPoint. This means, of course, that anyone you’re sharing the slides with won’t be able to change them either. So, if the other person is expecting to add feedback or make changes, this might not be the way to go.
Try a Smarter Workflow
If you do this a lot, rebuilding or reformatting each time gets old. If you’re using Canva because you have an easier time designing attractive slides using it compared to PowerPoint, we have a better option for you.
