If you didn\u2019t save your PowerPoint file, this can cause you to panic. Of course, then you remember the Undo button. Just as quickly, your mistake has been reversed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, if you are unfamiliar with how to undo in PowerPoint, then we must be about to blow your mind. We\u2019ll show you how to do it, the keyboard shortcuts you can use, how far back you can undo and more. Let\u2019s break down exactly how it works.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using the Undo Button&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are essentially two ways to use <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/undo-redo-or-repeat-an-action-84bdb9bc-4e23-4f06-ba78-f7b893eb2d28\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the undo function<\/a>. If you\u2019re more of a clicker than a keyboard-shortcut wizard, this is the method for you. There\u2019s a big, trusty Undo arrow at the top left of the PowerPoint window in the toolbar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click once to undo your most recent action.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click multiple times to undo further.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the dropdown arrow next to it to see a list of past actions and undo multiple steps at once. It\u2019s simple&#8230;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Windows:<\/strong> Ctrl + Z&nbsp;<br><strong>On Mac:<\/strong> Cmd + Z&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s it. Done. So in theory, you can undo up to 100 actions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The only thing is, they have to be undoable actions. Not all actions are undoable. For example, commands under the <strong>File <\/strong>tab cannot be undone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, 100 \u201cundo\u2019s\u201d is a lot! That always leaves room for mistakenly going back too far, which can also be a frustration. So, you can always use the <strong>Undo <\/strong>function\u2019s opposite but equally helpful function, <strong>Redo<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve probably seen the <strong>Redo <\/strong>button right near the <strong>Undo<\/strong> button, but there is a keyboard shortcut for it too:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Windows: <\/strong>Ctrl + Y or Ctrl + Shift + Z&nbsp;<br><strong>On Mac: <\/strong>Cmd + Y&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Undo Can\u2019t Save You From&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Like we said above, there are some actions that cannot be undone. Here are some more that won\u2019t work with the <strong>Undo <\/strong>button or will impact your ability to undo actions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Closing the file and reopening it wipes the undo history.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Running macros or certain add-ins might lock out the undo stack.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reverting slide masters or applying some themes can make it harder to reverse changes.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you\u2019re about to make a major formatting overhaul, consider saving a copy first. Future you will thank you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Undo in PowerPoint is like a rewind button for your brain farts, slip-ups and sudden creative changes.
